Panaji : As part of its enforcement against noise pollution, the traffic police have seized 21 motorcycles fitted with modified silencers. The drive was conducted on Monday, with traffic police across the state booking riders and owners under the relevant section of the Motor Vehicles Act. “Let’s join hands to
keep our roads safe, quiet and pollution-free,” said Goa Police in a post on social media.
Police said that most cases were booked by the traffic cell in Margao (5 cases), followed by Ponda and Vasco traffic cells, which booked 3 cases each.
The drive targeted modified silencers, which police said are responsible for causing noise pollution.
“The blaring sound of modified silencers results in noise pollution affecting residents, especially the senior citizens,” said a senior police officer.
Police said strict action will continue under the Motor Vehicles Act against violators using modified silencers, which cause noise pollution.
