Saras emerges chess champ

Margao: Saras Powar clinched the title at the Republic Cup All Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2026, held at Margao.

Saras finished on 8.5 points after drawing with Aarav Chopdekar of Mormugao on the top board to claim the championship. Rejmon Gavin Fernandes of Mormugao Taluka secured second place with 7.5 points after defeating Aaryavrat Desai of Canacona, while Chopdekar finished third.

In the age-group categories, Avnish Borker (U-15 boys), Navya Narvekar (U-15 girls), Manav Faldesai (U-13 boys), Aaradhya Balkrishna Sawant (U-13 girls), Siddhanth Samarth Naik (U-11 boys), Tvisha Vallabha Dessai (U-11 girls), Prayank Gaonkar (U-9 boys), Amaira Borkar (U-9 girls), Naksh Sinari (U-7 boys) and Jigyasa Gawas (U-7 girls) emerged winners.

Special Best Salcete Taluka prizes were awarded across categories, Abhit Naik, Serena Viegas, Deepansh Naik, Kaya Coutinho, Swayam Karapurkar, Shinel Rodrigues, Narayan Dessai, Valanka.
