BJP national spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal said Goa will benefit from the Union Budget 2026–27, particularly in sectors such as tourism, inland waterways, marine and fisheries, shipping, as well as cultural and blue economy initiatives.
He was speaking at a talk and discussion on the Union Budget 2026–27 during a social media influencers and intellectuals’ meet organised by the Goa BJP unit on Monday in Panaji.
“The last 10 Union Budgets were focused on building foundations, while the 11th budget (2026–27) is aimed at sustaining the country’s growth. This approach will ensure that all segments of society receive support through various initiatives announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman,” said Agarwal.
He claimed that over the past 10 years, the Union government has transferred Rs 50 lakh crore under various schemes and initiatives to the public and has pulled 25 lakh people above the poverty line.
“This is the first budget of the second quarter of this century, which strongly stressed on achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat
by 2047. This can make India a leader in the global south region. India needs to be an economic power because without that determination we can’t achieve the goal of ‘Vishwa Guru’,” said Agarwal.
He said that the Union government has given a major thrust to infrastructure development, with an allocation of Rs 12.5 lakh crore.
“The goal of the budget 2026–27 is a very clear and defined path for growth, having committed leadership and capacity to deliver,” he said.
Speaking about the specific takeaways for Goa, Agarwal said that several initiatives announced for the tourism sector will benefit the state tremendously, along with measures related to the cultural economy, the proposed 20 new waterways, and sectors such as marine, fisheries and shipping.
He also said that the fiscal deficit target has been set at 4.41 per cent in this budget, and will be reduced to 4.3 per cent in the next year and 4.2 per cent in the following financial year.
According to Agarwal, another key highlight of the Union Budget is the focus on reform express, a robust financial sector, and new initiatives aimed at cutting-edge technological development.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP state president Damu Naik were present on the occasion.
