Minister for Sports Ramesh Tawadkar on Monday said that several sports infrastructure projects will be executed in the Cuncolim constituency, including facilities to be supported through the Tribal Welfare Department in areas with a significant Scheduled Tribe population.

Tawadkar said that even with a limited sports budget, projects could be taken up through the Tribal Welfare Department.

“MLA Yuri Alemao has requested additional facilities, and I will ensure these demands are met,” he said, while urging parents to encourage their children to pursue sports.

He was speaking after inaugurating the newly developed net practice pitch at Cuncolim. The inauguration was attended by Alemao, CMC Acting Chairperson Anthony Vaz, Polita Carneiro and others.

Recalling his previous tenure as sports minister, Tawadkar said that the Cuncolim ground was developed for the Lusofonia Games. “It is heartening to see that the ground has been well maintained and continues to be in use. With the addition of this practice pitch, I am confident our youth will benefit greatly,” he said.

Alemao said the new cricket practice facility would help nurture the interest of youth and refine their skills. “As part of our commitment to community welfare, we have prioritised the enhancement of sports infrastructure, ensuring that young people have access to modern facilities and greater opportunities to excel,” he said.

Alemao also said that the futsal ground at Madicotto is ready and will be inaugurated shortly. Proposals have been submitted to develop grounds at Guirdolim, Paroda and Macasana, while plans for an indoor stadium with multiple facilities are underway. “I am confident these projects will soon become a reality,” he said.
