In a big push towards technology-driven policing, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday inaugurated ‘Deep Trace’, an advanced Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) platform developed in-house by the Artificial intelligence-Machine Learning (AI-ML) lab of Goa police.
“Deep Trace is the first AI-powered investigative tool of its kind developed by any state police in India. It enables law enforcement agencies to trace the digital footprints of accused individuals by using publicly available data linked to mobile numbers, PAN cards, vehicle numbers and other identifiers,” said Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime, Rahul Gupta.
He said the platform generates actionable intelligence such as aliases, addresses, UPI IDs, employment records, helping fast-track investigation and case detection.
Sawant said, “Today, Goa is recognised nationally as a model state in law enforcement innovation. ‘Deep Trace’, along with other initiatives like the ‘Quick Pass App’ and ‘Cloud Call Centre for Cyber Helpline 1930’, showcases our government’s commitment to building a data-driven, citizen-focussed and technologically advanced police force.”
Sawant further said, “Many of these initiatives have already been appreciated by the Union Home Minister and are being considered for implementation at the national level.”
Present on the occasion were Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) (HQ) Ajay Krishan Sharma, Cyber Crime SP Rahul Gupta, representatives of Samruddh Bharat Technologies (the technology partner of AI-ML lab) and other senior police officers.
Kumar said ‘Deep Trace’ has already helped in solving several complex cases during its trial phase and will now be fully integrated into criminal investigation workflows. He said the upcoming initiatives of AI-ML lab include a tenant verification app with real-time alerts for preventive policing and a cloud-based call centre for the 1930 cyber crime helpline.
The AI-ML lab of Goa police was inaugurated in February this year and is the first of its kind in the country. It has been established in collaboration with Samruddh Bharat Technologies, a Goa-based start-up working in the field of artificial intelligence, police said.
