In an incident of animal cruelty, a stray dog was allegedly beaten by a resident of Camurlim, who later tied the animal’s hind limbs and threw it into a river.
According to the police, the incident came to light on Friday evening near the Camurlim jetty. The accused, identified as 64-year-old Deelip Khorjuvekar, allegedly assaulted the stray dog with a bamboo stick, causing injuries. He then reportedly tied the injured dog’s hind limbs with a rope and dumped the animal into the river, leading to its death. The incident has sparked outrage among animal lovers. Apoorva Naik, an officer of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, North Goa, filed a police complaint regarding the cruel act.
Acting on the complaint, the Colvale Police registered an offence against the accused under Section 325 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1) (a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Further investigation is underway.
