London: Karolina Muchova saved a match point before edging Coco Gauff in a pulsating three-set contest, while Linda Noskova defeated Marta Kostyuk to set up the first all-Czech women’s singles final at Wimbledon.
Muchova produced one of the matches of the tournament to beat seventh seed Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) in a two-hour, 35-minute semifinal. The 10th seed survived a match point at 9-8 in the deciding-set tiebreak before sealing victory on her second match point after a dramatic finish.
Noskova then completed the Czech sweep by overcoming Kostyuk to ensure the Venus Rosewater Dish will remain in Czech hands for a third time in four years, following the triumphs of Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.
Muchova, whose career has been interrupted by ankle, abdominal and wrist injuries, showcased remarkable resilience and produced a stunning diving volley in the deciding tiebreak to keep her title hopes alive.
Gauff, who had fought back after dropping the opening set, came within a point of victory but was unable to convert before falling in one of the most dramatic matches of this year’s championships.
