Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said Goa has emerged as one of the leading states in implementing the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 through competency-based learning, mother-tongue education, technology-enabled classrooms, AI-driven academic monitoring, coding and robotics initiatives, and stronger integration between school and higher education.
Sawant, who also holds the Education portfolio, said that while artificial intelligence cannot replace teachers, it can help them improve their knowledge, teaching skills and capabilities.
He said these reforms are equipping Goan students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for the future.
“Even the Union Ministry of Education has appreciated Goa’s efforts in the implementation of the NEP 2020,” he said.
Sawant was speaking at the Goa Shiksha Samagam 2026 at Lok Bhavan, Dona Paula.
The event, organised by the Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training (GSCERT) and the Directorate of Higher Education, marked six years of the implementation of NEP 2020.
The theme of the programme was ‘Implementation of NEP 2020: Review, Reflections and the Road Ahead’.
Sawant said the Samagam brought together policymakers, academic leaders, educators, researchers and premier institutions to deliberate on the next phase of educational reforms.
He also said that the government remains committed to creating a future-ready education ecosystem that nurtures innovation, critical thinking, research and holistic development, laying a strong foundation for a Viksit Goa and Viksit Bharat.
The inaugural session was attended by PARAKH, NCERT Chief Executive Officer and Head Prof Indrani Bhaduri, Education Secretary Prasad Lolayekar, Director of Education Shailesh Zingde, Director of Higher Education Bhushan Savoikar and GSCERT Director Meghana Shetgaonkar.
