Curchorem: Sanguem MLA and Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai said he would work for the BJP candidate if the Sanguem assembly constituency is reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community in the 2027 Assembly elections. If the seat remains unreserved, he said he would accept the BJP ticket if offered.
Addressing party workers at a special meeting held at the Sanguem Municipal Hall on Sunday, Phal Dessai also appealed to them to remain united and resolve differences, if any, through dialogue.
He said the newly constituted BJP committees in Sanguem are dedicated and committed, adding that booth-level committees formed the foundation of the party. He expressed confidence that the BJP would win the Sanguem seat in the 2027 Assembly elections.
The BJP announced the office-bearers of its Sanguem block committee and various morchas during the meeting. The newly appointed office-bearers are Subhash Velip (block president), Prajyot Gaonkar and Gauresh Naik (secretaries), Sunaina Karpe (Mahila Morcha), Sidharth Naik (Yuva Morcha), Vijendra Velip (ST Morcha), Navnath Naik (OBC Morcha) and Ramakant Naik (Kisan Morcha).
BJP state president Damodar Naik said the party is strengthening its organisation through various committees, including the block committee, Mahila Morcha, Yuva Morcha, Kisan Morcha, OBC Morcha, ST Morcha and other sub-committees. He said the BJP had 15 crore members and two crore active members.
Also present were block president Subhash Velip, ZP member Rajeshree Gaonkar, Tushar Kelkar, Pradul Sangekar, Mahila Morcha president Sunaina Karpe, former MLA Vasudev Meng Gaonkar and others.
