Special vehicles to be used for patrolling, say police
Panaji: In view of the recent incidents of alleged violence against tourists, around 100 police personnel have been deployed to patrol the beaches and roads in Anjuna and Calangute from 11 pm to 5 am so as to ensure public safety.
While the police will patrol the roads on foot, specialised 4×4 vehicles will be used to monitor the beaches, with additional foot patrolling along the coastline, according to police officials.
These enhanced security measures have been introduced owing to the recent law-and-order disturbances.
It is pertinent to note that the police registered a murder case and an assault case related to two separate incidents at beach shacks in Calangute. One of the shacks was closed at the time of the incident, the police said.
North Goa superintendent of police Akshat Kaushal confirmed that around 100 personnel are actively patrolling the area.
“We have set up nine picket points and 14 static points along the roads, while beach patrolling will be done both on foot and with a 4×4 SUV,” he said.
Each picket point is being manned by five policemen, while two cops have been stationed at each static point.
The personnel have been drawn from various units and police stations across North Goa to ensure effective coverage of the area.
