The District and Sessions Court, North Goa has rejected bail applications of Zakaulla Khazi (21) from Caranzalem and Riyan Bagwan (18) from Tonca in connection with June case of alleged trespass and assault at a Caranzalem guest house.
The order was passed
on Friday.
The court observed that in view of the gravity of the charges against the accused and the severity of the punishment, and if the applicants are granted bail, there is possibility that they may pollute the stream
of justice.
The court also observed that given the manner in which the crime was committed, the weapons used and the punishment it carries, there is a real and distinct possibility that the applicant and the other accused may interfere with the victim and the potential witnesses, who may hesitate to come forward and record their statements.
In June, the Panaji police had registered an FIR against Akash Mudraj, Zakaulla, Riyan, Aman and Jayden for the aforementioned offences. The incident had occurred in the wee hours of June 5 and the complaint was lodged by the wife of the victim, police said. Referring to the complaint, the police had said that accused trespassed into the room, restrained and allegedly assaulted the victim. According to the police, previous enmity was the motive behind the assault.
