It was a soap-making workshop years ago that first introduced Emera Remedios to a craft that later grew into Mirasha, her Pilerne-based small business.
“That workshop opened up a whole new world for me. I was fascinated by how simple ingredients could be transformed into something beautiful, useful, and nourishing. I loved the blend of science and creativity,” she says.
As she experimented further, Remedios gradually added candles, lip balms, bath salts and other self-care products to her range of products.
And with the support of her children, mother, husband, and her first customers, Remedios decided to turn the hobby into a business. “When people appreciated my work and kept coming back for more, I realised there was potential to build something meaningful out of my passion,” she says.
The venture began as Homecrafted Soaps in 2018 before being rebranded as Mirasha three years ago. “I wanted a name that reflected warmth and creativity. And the name Mirasha is a piece of my heart. It’s a blend of my name with those of my children, Arya and Ayesha, and my husband, Aaron,” she says.
Today, Mirasha offers soaps, artisanal candles, wax melts, wax sachets, lip balms, bath products, room fresheners, body sprays, solid perfumes, linen sprays, Goa-themed and festive hampers, and customised gifts. In fact, she has a huge range of candles such as ramen bowls, ice cream bowls, cereal bowls and Goan Christmas sweets, along with other themes as also candles for Our Lady’s visitation, weddings, and christenings.
Among her favourites are the dessert-themed collection and the ramen bowl candle. In fact, she says, seeing people’s reactions when they realise they’re actually candles is always priceless.
“I love constantly learning and challenging myself with new creations. Inspiration comes from food, nature, travel, desserts, flowers, seasonal trends and everyday life. I also pay attention to what customers love and what’s trending globally,” she says, adding that she sources most of her raw materials from suppliers across India and imports some moulds and fragrances. Before introducing a new design, she emphasises, it is tested for quality, practicality, and durability.
Recently, Remedios also recreated an ice cream candle she had made during her first candle-making class 25 years ago. Customers can place orders through Mirasha’s Instagram page or via WhatsApp. Customised orders are also available, with local delivery and shipping across India.
Most of her learning, she says, has come through research, online courses, reading and practice. She shares, “I have attended over 30 courses to keep myself up to date with the latest trends.”
Among the projects she remembers most was creating a gift for chef Vikas Khanna. “It was incredibly rewarding to know that my work would reach someone I admire. My client Juwel trusted me with that order and I’m grateful to her,” she says. Another milestone was showcasing at the Alag Festival Shop during the Serendipity Arts Festival in 2025.
Remedios says sourcing quality materials, rising costs, balancing production with business responsibilities and keeping up with changing trends are some challenges she faces. “But what keeps me going is the joy of creating something unique and the happiness my products bring to customers,” she says, adding that success doesn’t happen overnight. “Every challenge has taught me something valuable and every customer interaction has helped me improve both my products and my business.”
Besides running Mirasha, Remedios curates the Made in Saligao (a community market) and promotes other small businesses in Goa. “I’ve learned that collaboration is far more powerful than competition, and a strong community helps everyone grow,”
she says. She is now working on more food-themed candles and hopes to expand the brand into boutique stores and collaborations with larger companies. “My dream is to build a brand that brings joy into people’s homes while inspiring others to pursue their creative passions.”
