Clube Marius Festacar and curator Gwendolyn de Ornelas hosted its first-ever ‘Zaddachem Fest’ (Festival of Trees) within the Milroc Colina complex, Pilar. The festival was celebrated with traditional music, food, dance and people shared community spirit highlighting the values of ekvott (unity) and diversity. The festival was intentionally free of sponsors and chief guests, placing the spotlight entirely on the people.

The festivities began with a heritage walk around the complex, led by dean of the Goa College of Agriculture, Dr. Suresh Kunkalikar and horticulturist Miguel Braganza, who identified medicinal herbs and plants. Dr. Ornelas conducted a Kadha workshop, herbal brewing made by simmering spices for colds and coughs and explained the benefits of local herbal remedies. Musical performances were presented by the Barreto brothers, the D’sa family, Russell Barreto, and Linda Diniz Braganza.

A coconut shell dance led by Dr. Ornelas, ‘Bolcaoancheo Gozalli’ hosted by senior journalist Prakash Kamat with coordinater Avelino D’sa and resource persons Sabina De Cunha, Rama Parsekar, and Rosita Heredia was also conducted.

The event also saw informative sessions by the Goa Police on cybercrime, talks by local health officers on healthy eating habits and a special presentation on garbage management.
