22 more file nominations for CCP polls; total touches 54

Panaji

A total of 22 candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday for the March 11 election to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), which covers 30 wards across the city.

With these filings, the total number of nominations for the CCP polls has risen to 54. The last date for filing nomination papers is February 24.

The nominations filed on Monday include ward IV (General) – Po John; ward VI (OBC) – Sheetal Naik; ward VII (General) – Leonid Furtado; ward X (General) – Vishnu Naik; ward XI (General) – Rahul Yadalli; ward XII (General) – Shabnam Khan; ward XIII (General) – Nilkhant Chari; ward XIV (OBC) – Madan Faterpekar; ward XV (OBC) – Suraj Naik; ward XVI (Women) – Pranjal Naik; ward XVII (General) – Jack Sukhija; ward XVIII (General) – Ashish Nagvekar; ward XIX (Women) – Deodita Vianna Pereira; ward XX (General) – Govind Chodankar and Mahesh Revankar.

In ward XXI (OBC) – Balchandra Tarker Pednekar; ward XXIV (General) – Nitin Narvekar; ward XXV (Women) – Madhavi Amonkar; ward XXVI (General) – Shubhada Dhond; ward XXVII (OBC) – Vasudev Manerkar; ward XXVIII (General) – Ghanashyam Nasnodkar; and ward XXX (General) – Vaibhav Salgaonkar also filed their nominations.

Former mayor Surendra Furtado has filed his nomination under the ‘Ami Panjekar’ panel. Thirty candidates from the Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate panel have already filed their nominations.

John Po has filed his nomination from ward IV, where Mayor Rohit Monserrate is also contesting.

Utpal Parrikar of ‘Ami Panjekar’ said his panel would address problems faced by the people of Panaji due to casinos, including parking shortages and traffic congestion.

“Concrete steps will also be taken to ease daily hardships and improve civic management in the city,” he said.
