Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa police has filed a chargesheet against alleged drug peddler Nigerian national Chigozie Innocent Nzedigwe (24) before the District and Sessions Court, North Goa, in connection with Rs 2.53 crore drugs seizure case.

The matter has been adjourned to April 20 for
arguments before framing of charges.

Innocent was arrested by the ANC in October last year for the second time during a raid in Siolim. Police said the ANC had kept a vigil on his activities. During the raid he was found to be in illegal possession of cocaine weighing 1.16 kg worth Rs 2,32,46,000 and ecstasy powder weighing 106.2 grams worth Rs 21,24,000, all worth around Rs 2,53,70,000.

Incidentally, Nzedigwe had been arrested by the ANC in October 2024 for possession of cocaine and ecstasy powder. He was later released on bail.

As part of its strategic crackdown on drug menace in the state, Goa police had kept radar on over 54 drug peddlers. A senior police officer had said that the department had shortlisted the drug peddlers/dealers and their activities were being monitored round-the-clock. Apart from that the police had also been keeping a track on accused persons arrested in drugs cases and were out on bail.

Police said that owing to the well-planned strategy to disrupt the drug networks by targeting the supply chain as well as demand resulted in record seizures of drugs worth over Rs 78.45 crore in 2025. In 2024, the police had seized drugs worth Rs 9.81 crore.

In the last 5 years, Goa police registered 740 drugs cases in which 899 accused persons were arrested.

The conviction rate in drug cases has been increasing with Goa police achieving 87.23 per cent conviction in 2025, said a senior police officer.
