Margao

Surveillance on traffic offenders is being stepped up in Margao and Fatorda with nearly 90 high-tech CCTV cameras. Some of these cameras have already been installed and made operational, while some are still in the process
of fitment.

Sources in the traffic cell said that Margao will get 47 cameras, while 39 have been installed in Fatorda in Phase I.

Margao traffic PI Sanjay Dalvi said 27 CCTVs have been fitted so far, with another 20 to follow, bringing the total to 47. He added that feeds are already coming into the control centre at the district police headquarters.

However, challans for traffic offences such as non-use of helmet or seatbelt, wrong-side entry, and hazardous parking, are expected to be issued after the 21-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

In Fatorda, while the cameras are currently under the jurisdiction of Fatorda police, the traffic cell is also expected to take action against violators.

Dalvi said that the cameras are being set up at all major junctions and intersections and urged the public to follow traffic rules to avoid penalties.
