A bison rammed into a jeep on the Bicholim-Kudchirem road, causing significant damage to the vehicle, though the occupants escaped with minor injuries. The incident occurred when the bison was crossing the road and suddenly dashed into the oncoming jeep, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.

Eyewitnesses said the jeep was travelling from Kudchirem towards Bicholim when the gaur suddenly appeared on the road. The driver lost control of the vehicle following the impact. The bison fled the spot immediately after the incident.

The jeep was occupied by the driver and a passenger, who works with a company in Shirgao. Both were reportedly shaken by the incident but did not sustain serious injuries. Personnel from the Bicholim police station and the forest department rushed to the spot soon after being alerted.

This is not the first such incident in the area, which is known for frequent sightings of gaur bison. Several accidents involving wildlife have been reported from the region in the past. In a similar incident reported a few days ago at Mayem, a four-wheeler was damaged and a two-wheeler rider sustained injuries.

The forest department has taken cognisance of the incident and initiated an inquiry. Officials said measures are being worked out to prevent such incidents in future and to ensure the safety of both commuters and wildlife.
