A 25-year-old student from BITS Pilani College, Sancoale died and another was seriously injured after their speeding two-wheeler rammed into the rear wheel of a tanker on the Verna highway on Saturday evening.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Karan Murthy (25), a native of Mysuru, Karnataka, while the injured student is Soham Adhikari (25), who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Verna police said the accident occurred at around 5.30 pm when both students, who were pursuing their PhD at BITS Pilani College in Sancoale–Verna, were travelling towards Margao on a two-wheeler. The vehicle was being driven by Karan Murthy.

When they reached the highway near Zuari Indian Oil Tanking Limited, a tanker was taking a turn. As the two-wheeler was reportedly at high speed, the rider lost control and crashed into the rear left wheel of the tanker, throwing both onto the road.

Both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital. Karan Murthy was taken to the Margao District Hospital, where he was declared dead. Soham Adhikari was admitted to GMC Hospital, Bambolim, where he is undergoing treatment.

Verna police conducted a panchnama at the site and are investigating the case further.
