A letter seeking urgent intervention to prevent possible damage to the Bondvol lake and its vicinity has been submitted to the Goa Wetland Authority by Arturo D’Souza, chairperson, Bondvol lake management committee.
The letter brought the authority’s attention to construction taking place within the notified zone of influence of Bondvol lake.
“The area is governed by a floor area ratio (FAR) of 120, and any activity in this zone is required to strictly follow environmental rules and regulations,” stated D’Souza, adding that allowing construction activity without proper checks could cause serious and irreversible damage to lake and the surrounding wetland ecosystem. The committee requested the wetland authority to conduct a site inspection at the earliest and initiate appropriate legal steps to prevent further harm to the wetland area. “The member secretary has assured us that he will write to the TCP to withdraw the licences issued,” said Inacio Pereira, Santa Cruz panch.
