Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said the Goa Human Resource Development will create 6,000 to 8,000 jobs in the next six months, and linked the job creation to wider efforts on infrastructure, connectivity and cultural preservation.
Addressing the people during the 80th Independence Day celebrations held near the old secretariat, the Chief Minister said, “The government is taking steps to provide employment opportunities to the youth through recruitment in various departments.”
Sawant added that these recruitment drives would remain transparent and merit-based.
Informing that improved road infrastructure, elevated corridors, national highways and bridges have made commuter travel easier in Goa, he said the Porvorim elevated corridor would be thrown open for motorists before Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Chief Minister also said Goa is the first state in the country to follow the Happiness Index, and this initiative reflects broader approach to development, in turn taking citizens’ well-being and quality of life into account.
“Goa’s progress must be measured not only through infrastructure and economic growth but also through the happiness and welfare of its people,” he reckoned.
Earlier, the Chief Minister hoisted the national tricolour.
In his speech, Sawant said this was a moment to honour the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to building a strong, prosperous and Viksit Bharat.
The Chief Minister said, “Gen Z has a different outlook and fresh ideas; the youth have the freedom to question the government and are being encouraged to bring their innovations and ideas forward.”
The Independence Day celebrations featured the Goa Police and Rajasthan platoon marching in the ceremonial parade.
