Stating that India has remained united despite its diverse cultures, languages and religions across different states, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said many had believed that India would fall apart due to its internal differences, but the country has continued to stand united as one nation.
Founder of American United Global Peace University Madhu Kishan honoured founder member of Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Goa Minister for Art and Culture, Tribal Welfare and Sports Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of Kamat on the second day of the Lokotsav festival at Amone in Canacona.
Tawadkar was presented with the Human Excellence Award (Honorary Doctorate Award) of America’s Global Peace University, which comprised a gold medal and a shawl.
Kamat said leaders like Tawadkar have been nurturing and preserving the nation’s heritage and culture for the past 25 years through the medium of Lokotsav in Canacona. He said Tawadkar’s work was praiseworthy and deserved high recognition.
Tawadkar said Goa has a unique image and it is the collective duty of citizens to protect it. He said that when Adarsh Yuva Sangh was established in 1995, its objective was to preserve Goan culture, with a focus on education, revival of farming and farmers, and safeguarding the human values of village life. Taking this vision forward, the concept of Lokotsav was conceived, and Adarsh Yuva Sangh has been working towards this goal for the past 25 years, he said.
Tawadkar said representatives from Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra have participated in Lokotsav and would, in turn, speak about the true culture of Goa in their respective states. He said it was because of their presence that the authentic cultural identity of Goa would be conveyed beyond the state.
