The Department of Education has published draft rules under the Goa School Education Act, 1984, to amend Rule 21 and implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state.

The amendments, titled the Goa School Education (Amendment) Rules, 2025, revise the academic
calendar.

The academic year for Classes I to V and Class IX will run from June to April, while Classes VI to X and Class XII will have their academic year from April to March. There will be a one-week break after the end and the before the start of the academic year.

The director of education will have the authority to divide the academic year into terms.

The revised rules also set vacation schedules. A summer vacation of five weeks will begin on
May 1, and a three-week break in October or November will coincide with Diwali.

A Ganesh festival break of up to one week may be declared, with lost working days compensated by adjusting discretionary holidays. The Christmas vacation will be from December 24 to January 2.

The draft, notified in the gazette on March 12, is open for objections and suggestions, which must be submitted to the director of education, Porvorim, within five days of publication.
