The government has tweaked the Western Ghat Development programme scheme in force in five talukas, viz. Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Dharbandora in south Goa and Sattari in the north district.
The revised scheme says that, farmers training programme will be conducted for 50 participants in each of the zones of the Western Ghats with maximum expenditure of Rs 300 per participants, viz Rs 15,000 per farmers training programme.
Further, Krishi Mahotsav will be conducted to benefit about 500 farmers in each of the Western Ghat zones with the total expenditure of Rs 1.50 lakh towards pandal, stalls, transport cost of the participants, visiting farmers, honorarium to the guest lecturer, refreshment and lunch etc.
Planting material of fruit plants, medicinal plants and forest species as per the requirement of the farmer shall be provided to farmers free of cost up to maximum of Rs 10,000 per hectare.
The scheme is for the development of ecological fragile areas and is for farmers, self help groups, farmers clubs, societies and NGOs.
It is under implementation in the state since 1975-76.
Beneficiaries are taught conservation measures and income generating activities like bee-keeping, among others.
