VALPOI

Students of Unity High School, Valpoi, have designed and developed an Artificial Intelligence-based robot as part of the school’s Robotics Programme.

The robot has been built to listen, recognise visual inputs, process information and respond through programmed commands and speech and is equipped with vision intelligence and AI-based response systems, demonstrating the application of emerging technologies at the school level.

The project was developed by a student team comprising Talha Khatib, Muhammad MahbarSollapur, Amairah Aga and Anas Muzawar.

Talha Khatib, who led the team, worked on the hardware and firmware aspects of the robot. He designed the physical structure and integrated motors, sensors and a Raspberry Pi computer that controls the system. He also handled firmware programming to coordinate vision input, voice commands and movement. Talha said the focus was on ensuring the hardware could support the AI components while maintaining smooth operation.

The robot’s vision system was developed by Muhammad Mahbar Sollapur using YOLOv3 neural networks. The system enables the robot to recognise multiple objects in real time through a camera. Mahbar said the aim was to allow the robot to identify common objects accurately while operating in real-world conditions.

Amairah Aga worked on the software and conversational features of the robot. She programmed voice recognition and voice-controlled movement using Python and integrated an AI language model to support question-and-answer interaction. Amairah said the intention was to create a system that responds to spoken commands without the use of external controls.

Anas Muzawar handled system integration, assisting with linking hardware, software and AI components. He worked on circuit assembly, debugging and testing to ensure coordinated functioning of the robot’s systems.

The robot was demonstrated before students and teachers at the school, where it responded to voice commands and answered questions in real time.

The project was guided by Robotics Instructor Arif Hussain, with academic and technical support from Computer Teacher Nausil Shah Muzawar. PTA Chairman SadicBeig said such initiatives help students develop technical skills and confidence through hands-on learning in emerging technologies.
