Prof Rajendra Gad has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Goa University. He replaces Prof Harilal Menon.
Governor P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who is the university Chancellor, has issued the appointment order. Gad will take charge of his post on August 25. Around 200 applicants had applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
The search-cum-selection committee, which recommended the name of Prof Gad was set up by the Chancellor in March
this year.
Hailing from Camurlim village of Bardez taluka in North Goa, Gad is currently the Dean of School of Physical and Allied Sciences with ‘Multivariate Signals & Systems and Computer Networks’ as his area of interest.
Gad has been the recipient of the Best Teacher Award of the government of Goa for the year 2019-20. He has also won the first prize for Fly Cocobot at ‘KRITAGYA’, a national level Agtech Hackathon of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
Gad is selected as the tenth Vice-Chancellor of Goa University and is the second Goan to be the Goa University VC. Dr Satish Shetye was the first Goan to occupy the
top post.
Prof Menon was appointed Vice-Chancellor on September 4, 2021. More than 250 applications had been received for the post in 2021. He was the first academician from the Goa University to have been appointed as the
vice-chancellor.
