Panaji: Goa police have verified over 4.33 lakh tenants in the last three years through the tenant verification process.

Police said tenant verification is important as it helps establish the antecedents of individuals. It is also necessary as strangers may commit crimes and flee, leaving no trace or trail.

Stating that tenant verification drives have helped in preventing criminal activities and maintaining public safety, a senior police officer said, “It is a crucial tool in maintaining law and order, as it helps to identify individuals with potential criminal backgrounds who may otherwise reside in our communities undetected.” .

As per to police records, 91,249 tenant

verification forms were filled in 2023, while in 2024 the number rose to 2,08,865. In 2025, a total of 1,29,417 forms were filled, and in 2026 (till January), 4,427 forms have been submitted.

Police said that beat staff of police stations regularly carry out patrolling in their respective jurisdictions and verify migrants residing in those areas to ensure proper documentation, safety and security, and to prevent unlawful activities. Special awareness drives such as ‘Know

Your Neighbour’ are also conducted for public awareness.

A police officer said that tenant verification forms are filled on a day-to-day basis by police stations and are then sent to respective native addresses for verification.

Awareness is also being conducted regarding the online submission of tenant details through the Goa Police mobile application.

Police stated that house owners have been requested to fill tenant verification forms for their tenants.

They said that failure to submit the forms would result in a report being sent to the district administration against such house owners.
