Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Friday set a 15-day timeline to provide at least 70 per cent of the required amenities at the Chicalim Sub-District Hospital.

He said the hospital requires more nurses, technicians and staff. Additional facilities such as more beds for the dialysis centre and more dental chairs will improve functioning and help more patients in need.

“Time should not be wasted over discussion, correspondence, etc. All facilities needed must be put in place. The CM has directed Joint Secretary Finance to immediately give what is needed,” Godinho said.

Godinho, who inspected the hospital and interacted with doctors, nurses and staff to review its functioning, said the move followed his recent meeting with Chief Minister
Pramod Sawant.

“This upgrade will happen within the next few days. Even if it takes three to four weeks, it should not be a problem,” Godinho said.

The Minister said the government is committed to strengthening healthcare facilities in the constituency and ensuring better services for residents.

Godinho further said that the Chief Minister has directed the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to put in place an annual maintenance contract for the hospital to ensure proper upkeep of infrastructure in the future.
