Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant extended their greetings to Goans on the occasion of Liberation Day.
âDecember 19, 1961 is the most significant day in Goan history, marking the Liberation of Goa
from Portuguese rule and its integration into the Indian Union. It is a day on
which we solemnly remember and honour the innumerable sacrifices made during our long and arduous freedom struggle. This historic occasion highlights the importance of unity, courage, and resilience in the pursuit of independence. It also stands as a powerful reminder of Goaâs rich heritage and its remarkable journey towards becoming the vibrant and progressive state,â he said.
In his address, the Chief Minister stated that Liberation Day is ânot only a reminder of our historic struggle for freedom but also a celebration of Goaâs enduring spirit, rich culture, and resilient peopleâ.
He urged every Goan to honour this legacy by contributing proactively towards the progress and prosperity of the state, and appealed to citizens to work together to make Goa stronger, more sustainable, and self-reliant.
Highlighting the governmentâs flagship initiative âSwayampurna Goa,â he encouraged people to take advantage of the opportunities it offers for economic empowerment, local entrepreneurship, skill development, and community-driven growth.
