The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Tuesday granted conditional bail to a man in a doctor’s murder case.
The High Court said the applicant Alok Singh be enlarged on bail, on executing a PR bond in the sum of
Rs 50,000 with one or two local sureties in the like amount. The applicant shall attend the trial court on every date unless exempted, said the High Court.
The High Court also said that the applicant shall attend the police station on the first Monday of each month between 9 am and 11 am and as and when required to do so by the investigating officer; if the applicant holds a passport, he shall deposit the same with the police station; also the applicant shall not leave the state without the permission of the trial court.
The case of the prosecution was that on February 8, 2023, Amarelo Fernandes filed a complaint that
Dr Nirvan Bharat was found dead in his rented flat.
According to police, the victim lived in a rented apartment at Betalbatim and had employed Simanchal Parida from Odisha as a cook. Parida was friends with the other accused—Alok Singh, Nagendra Kumar, both from Rajasthan, and Shahid Khan from Mumbai.
Police had said that they strangled Dr Bharat, hid the corpse in the storage space of the bed and decamped with cash.
A counsel appearing for Alok Singh submitted that the applicant has undergone long incarceration, without being afforded an expeditious trial and on this ground alone, the applicant deserves to be released on bail.
