Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane met Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi and held
discussions on ways to use funds released under the PM’s MISTHI schemeĀ  for mangrove conservationĀ  in Goa.

They also deliberated on the forest management plan for the state.

ā€œWe discussed how Goa can tap into the PM’s MISTHI funds for mangrove conservation, with 3,500 survey numbers having mangroves already brought under protected areas,ā€ he added.

The PM’s MISHTI scheme, officially named the Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes, is focused on the conservation and restoration of mangrove ecosystems.

Launched on June 5, 2023, it aims to promote mangrove development across approximately 540 squareĀ  kilometreĀ  spanning nineĀ  coastal states and threeĀ  Union territories over a five-year period (2023-2028).

Rane said they also deliberatedĀ Ā  on the forest management plan for Goa, the upcoming massive tree plantation drive of 5 lakh trees under the ā€˜Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, the promotion of eco-tourism in forest zones, and hosting of a scientific conclave on conservation with the participation of Yadav.

ā€œā€¦India has placed strong emphasis on climate action, mangrove conservation, and sustainable forestry. In line with this vision, Yadav’s vast knowledge of forestry and visionary ideas continue to guide our environmental efforts, ā€œ he added.

Goa must safeguard its resources for future generations while ensuring their wise and sustainable use for development, echoing the principle that conservation is the wise use of nature and natural resources, the Forest Minister said.
