The Goa-Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) on Wednesday started the white-topping of the roads in the Pilerne Industrial Estate, a technology which will be extended to the other industrial estates.

The Goa-IDC has allocated Rs 100 crore for the infrastructural development in industrial areas, with focus on accelerating industrial growth.

A Goa-IDC official said that the priorities include ensuring pothole-free roads and upgrading water supply systems in the industrial estates. “The white-topping technology will be used for the first time in Goa for internal roads within industrial estates,” he said.

The  technology allows the road to be resurfaced with a concrete overlay over the existing road, extending the life of the road by another 20 to 25 years.

Maintaining that this advanced road construction method promises greater durability and smoother surfaces, the official said that all eight industrial estates in Goa will undergo upgradation.

The upgradation project will be implemented in four phases. The first phase began with Honda and Pilerne Industrial Estate, to be followed by Verna and Margao Industrial Estates. The third phase will cover Bethora Industrial Estate, and finally, the fourth phase will include Canacona, Cacoda, and Cuncolim Industrial Estates.

Goa-IDC will also undertake onboarding of over 1,000 industries onto the OPEN (Online Platform for Enterprise Network), the move significantly strengthening digital governance and streamlines industrial operations, thus positioning Goa as a digitally progressive industrial hub.
