Mapusa

While much of Mapusa celebrated Holi, residents of Khorlim were left grappling with a disruption in water supply, with taps running dry for the past three days.

Locals said there had been no regular water supply in the area for two to three days, forcing several households to depend
on private tankers or fetch water from distant sources. Residents expressed
resentment that the shortage occurred during the festive period.

A local resident said it was unfortunate that people had to search for water during a festival and questioned why maintenance work was not planned in advance.

Councillor Sainath Raul said the entire Khorlim area had been without water for the past few days. He said he approached the drinking water department, which cited a technical issue with valves and assured that repairs were under way and supply would resume by evening. Raul said such issues recur during major festivals and peak summer, alleging lack of accountability.

When contacted, a drinking water department engineer said a technical fault developed in a pump at Dattawadi on Monday evening, affecting supply to Khorlim. He said as Tuesday was a public holiday on account of Holi, repair work could not be undertaken.

The engineer said repairs began on Wednesday morning, were completed by evening, and water supply was restored thereafter.
