Mapusa

The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress staged a protest march in Mapusa on Saturday, raising concerns over rising fuel prices, inflation and the growing financial strain on households.

The demonstration was led by Mahila Congress president Pratiksha Khalap and attended by senior party leaders, including AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare, co-in-charge Anjali Nimbalkar, AICC secretary Prajyoti Handore and GPCC president Girish Chodankar, along with party workers and members.

Addressing the gathering, Thakare criticised the Central government over increasing prices and alleged that its economic policies have placed a burden on citizens across the country. He also drew comparisons with earlier political statements on the value of the rupee and inflation.

Highlighting the rise in fuel prices, Nimbalkar attributed it to the Centre’s economic policies. She said inflation has affected various sections of society, including traders, and called for greater accountability from the government.

Referring to the increase in LPG prices and the cost of essential commodities, Chodankar said women have been among the worst affected by rising prices. He added that both the middle class and economically weaker sections are facing difficulties due to inflation.

Khalap said inflation has steadily affected the common man since 2014 and accused the government of failing to fulfil its promises. She said the protest was organised to highlight public concerns and demand a rollback of rising prices.

The Mahila Congress members concluded the march by reiterating their demand for immediate measures to curb inflation and provide relief to the public.
