Panaji: The state government has notified the Mukhya Mantri Janjatiya Mhaje Ghar Yojana, a scheme that provides financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh to eligible Scheduled Tribe

(ST) beneficiaries for purchasing or regularising dwelling houses and land under the flagship Mhaje Ghar Yojana.

“Though the fee structure fixed under the Mhaje Ghar scheme is at nominal rates, most of the population belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community may still find it difficult to pay these fees,” states the notification.

“For this reason, the Chief Minister had announced the Mukhya Mantri Janjatiya Mhaje Ghar Yojana in the Budget Speech 2026-27, so as to provide such tribal population with financial support for housing,” the notification states further.

Members of the ST community with a total annual family income not exceeding Rs 5 lakh are eligible.

The scheme provides 100 per cent financial assistance by way of reimbursement and for purchase or regularisation of a pre-1972 house with land, subject to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh. It also provides 50 per cent financial assistance, up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh, for the purchase or regularisation of a post-1972 house with land.

The Director of Tribal Welfare will sanction benefits under the scheme. Once sanctioned, the amount will be reimbursed to the applicant through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
