Opposition and ruling MLAs demanded the merger of the 2nd and 3rd India Reserve Battalions (IRBn) with the regular Goa Police force, citing prolonged career stagnation and alleged discrimination against trained constables.

Fatorda GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai said the government’s inaction has created unfair conditions for IRB personnel.

“If trained constables of the 2nd and 3rd IRBn are treated as second-class citizens in their own force, then what message are we sending about fairness,” he asked, adding that the merger file has remained pending since 2021 despite the successful integration of the 1st IRBn with promotion benefits through a common cadre.

Sardesai questioned why trained IRBn personnel were being denied equal opportunities. “Even Home Guards are being absorbed into Goa Police. Why are trained IRBn constables being denied the same chance?” he said. He urged the government to allow constables to opt for the merger through a defined and time-bound process.

Ruling party MLAs Rajesh Faldessai (Cumbarjua) and Krishna Salkar (Vasco) supported the proposal, saying the merger would address the shortage of police personnel.

across the state and provide career progression to IRB members currently facing limited prospects.
