Margao: The Deputy Collector and SDM on Sunday issued an order strictly prohibiting the parking of any vehicle within the parking lot of the Government Complex Building, Ponda, to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Ponda bye-election.

The order, issued by Deputy Collector and SDM Kaushik D Amonkar will come into force from 10 am on April 6, 2026, until April 10, 2026.

“The Government Complex Building will serve as the venue for critical election activities, including the dispersal of polling parties on April 8 and the arrival of polled EVMs, VVPATs, and other poll materials on the late evening of April 9,” stated the SDM, adding that the venue needs to be cleared to facilitate these bypoll activities.

The authorities said that unrestricted parking could lead to traffic congestion, obstruct emergency movement, and disturb public order during the election process.

The parking restriction does not apply to official vehicles of the Election Commission of India, observers, and the Chief Electoral Officer of Goa, vehicles of on-duty police, magistrates, and election officials, and emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire services, or any vehicle specifically permitted by competent authorities.

The Ponda Police Inspector has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order.

Additionally, the Traffic Cell in Farmagudi, Ponda, has been authorised to take necessary steps, including the towing or removal of any vehicles found in violation of these restrictions.
