Governor  Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Saturday called for protecting Goa’s land, hills, rivers and beaches for future generations, while Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stressed the need to preserve the unique communal harmony of Goans in the years ahead.

They were addressing the 40th Goa Statehood Day celebrations held at Kala Academy in Panaji, where Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan attended as chief guest. The Governor described Goa as an ideal state that has achieved significant progress while preserving social harmony. He urged people to safeguard the state’s rivers, forests, biodiversity and village ecosystems for future generations.

He said development should not come at the cost of environmental degradation and stressed the need to preserve Goa’s original character. The Governor added that Goa’s social unity and collective spirit have played a key role in the state’s success.

Chief Minister Sawant said Goa’s journey over the past four decades has been marked by steady growth and transformation. He credited the people of Goa for contributing to the state’s development across sectors and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive progress.

Sawant said Goa attained statehood through the sacrifices of many Goans
while maintaining its distinct identity.  He added that the state’s infrastructure drive and major development projects have been made possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and are planned to benefit future generations over the next 50 years.

Several dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar and other elected representatives, attended the function.

On the occasion, 11 Goan personalities who have
built successful business brands, contributed to the economy and created employment opportunities were felicitated with certificates. Appointment letters
were also handed over to newly recruited candidates selected through the Goa Staff Selection Commission by Vice-President Radhakrishnan.
