Minister for Environment and Law, Alexio Sequeira, on Friday said that he has instructed police to immediately initiate tenant verification drive in the Nuvem constituency.

This decision follows complaints regarding disturbances caused by individuals residing in rental properties.

During a media briefing after a public meeting at the South Goa Collectorate, Sequeira said, “I have asked the police to start an urgent tenant verification drive in my Nuvem constituency areas. There have been complaints about the misbehavior by those staying in rental premises, with some allegedly involved in drug-related activities. We want to put a stop to this.”

Sequeira also convened a meeting with Margao municipal councillors and officials to address the ongoing kabrastan land issue at Sonsoddo.

He said, “The kabrastan issue was brought to my attention. While I held discussions with the MMC officials, I have requested additional time to study the case due to an existing dispute. The relevant official will brief me on this matter on Monday.”

Additionally, a delegation of khazan landowners met with the minister
to express their concerns over increased registration fees for khazan land used in pisciculture.

Sequeira told them that their grievances would be discussed with the appropriate department officials.

Several individuals also approached the minister, requesting an extension for the regularisation of unauthorised structures.
