The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa unit has urged the state government to reconsider its decision to commence the 2025-26 academic year from April.

It also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for making policy announcements without proper execution.

Addressing the media on Friday, AAP Goa convenor Amit Palekar and other party office-bearers slammed the Pramod Sawant-led government for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 abruptly. They alleged that the policy was introduced without consulting parents and other stakeholders.

“The government claims the NEP is for the overall development of students, but it should have been
implemented methodically by taking all stakeholders into confidence.
This is a dictatorial policy, which should not happen,” Palekar said.

Stating that AAP is not opposed to NEP, Palekar said that it should be implemented in a structured manner.

The party urged the government to ensure the necessary infrastructure is in place before enforcing changes in the education system. “The government should consider the concerns of parents, teachers and students,” he added.

Meanwhile, Palekar also raised concerns over Goa State Pollution Control Board’s (GSPCB) handling of water quality in the Mandovi River. He alleged that the board is not collecting water samples from areas where casino vessels release treated water into the river.
