Mapusa

RGP, on Friday, demanded strict police verification and registration of labourers to control

what it described as the growing ā€œmigrant nuisanceā€ in the state.

RGP leader Manoj Parab said there is an urgent need for a permanent digital policy to regulate the issue.

The party submitted a memorandum to the Mapusa police highlighting the problem of migrant labourers gathering near the Mapusa bus stand and surrounding areas, alleging that they occupy footpaths, obstruct pedestrian movement, and harass women and college-going girls.

He said many migrants, when unable to find work, loiter near bus stands and ATMs, creating nuisance.

ā€œThere is a need to work out a permanent solution by the police and the state government. A policy must be brought for regulating migrants,ā€ he added.

Parab said that the

RGP is not against labourers but wants them registered and verified under the Labour Act.

ā€œLabour is needed in Goa, and we are not against it, but proper police verification must be done. It is not appropriate to obstruct others by blocking public places in this way,ā€ he said.
