The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has directed the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to hand over identified space for the Dabolim airport police station within 30 days. For the past eight years, the police station has been functioning from a makeshift ‘tin box’ structure.

The GHRC took suo motu cognisance after a report published in The Navhind Times on June 20 highlighted the poor working conditions faced by police personnel operating from a cramped 40-square-foot tin shed since 2017.

An inquiry, led by GHRC acting chairperson Desmond D’Costa and member Pramod V Kamat, examined responses from the Director General of Police and the Airport Director.

The AAI informed the Commission that an area of 190 sqm at the basement level of the multi-level car parking facility had been identified for the new police station and a

traffic cell.

In its order, the Commission recommended that the AAI expedite the transfer of the identified area to the police within 30 days and that the police department establish infrastructure and shift operations within 60 days thereafter.

Under Section 18(e) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, the GHRC also directed both respondents to submit a report on the action taken or proposed by January 7, 2026.
