A Rs 10 crore sports ground will be developed at Latambarcem in the Bicholim constituency under the Khelo India initiative, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye said on Tuesday.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a modern sports complex developed by
the Sports Department at Advalpal at a cost of nearly Rs 4 crore.
Earlier in the day, Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar inspected the sports ground. He said that the government remained committed to providing modern sports infrastructure in rural areas to help athletes compete at the state, national and international levels.
Shetye said that around Rs 2 crore had already been spent on the Advalpal ground for facilities such as changing rooms, water supply and compound walls, while another Rs 2 crore would be spent on electrical and related infrastructure.
Sports equipment was also distributed to sports clubs during the event.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sports Department Director Ajay Gaude, Zilla Panchayat member Padmakar Malik, Atmaram Gaude, sarpanch Vinashree Gaonkar, Pradeep Revadkar, Subatta Samant, Shekhar Parwar, Gajanan Palkar and local residents.
