Urges them to ensure 100% cultivation, with no land left fallow
Sankhali: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the contribution of rural panchayats is vital in building a self-reliant Goa, and urged them to actively encourage farmers to fully utilise government schemes aimed at boosting agricultural activity.
“The journey towards self-reliance can only succeed if rural panchayats strengthen their efforts and ensure 100% cultivation. No land should be left fallow,” said the Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion of the foundation-stone laying and inauguration of multiple development projects in the Amona panchayat area.
The projects inaugurated include the renovated Amona panchayat office building and a new garbage shed under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Foundation stones were laid for a sports ground, and a school laboratory.
Sawant said the government is focusing on rural agricultural development and cleanliness.
“Our vision includes a Green Revolution and garbage-free villages. We will not tolerate littering. Everyone’s contribution is crucial for villages’ growth,” he said, while asking the people to submit photographs of those caught in the act of dumping garbage in the open to the police, assuring that the culprits will be arrested.
Encouraging villagers to make full use of agricultural potential, he said, “Amona has been blessed with a bandh, which is a boon for agriculture. If anyone is unable to cultivate their land, they should hand it over to someone who can – even to me. I am eager to take up farming myself.”
The Chief Minister also distributed ‘Student Gaurav’ awards, supported by Vedanta.
Vedanta official Saptesh Sardesai said Vedanta is committed to contributing to Amona’s development across multiple sectors and is keen on instilling innovation in young minds through education-focused initiatives.
