Panaji: South Goa District Hospital, Margao, has introduced a new procedure for issuing disability certificates to bedridden patients, removing the need to shift them to the hospital for assessment.
The order was issued by Dr Rajendra M Borkar, deputy director-cum-medical superintendent of
Hospicio South Goa District Hospital, following instructions from the Directorate of Health Services to improve access to disability certification and facilitate related services.
Under the new procedure, relatives of bedridden patients must submit an application for a disability certificate at Hospicio South Goa District Hospital. After receiving the application, the hospital will forward it to the Primary Health Centre concerned.
The order said the health officer or medical officer in-charge of the area concerned will coordinate with a consultant from
South Goa District Hospital and arrange a visit to the residence of the person with disability.
During the visit, the medical officer in-charge will conduct a video call with the consultant at Hospicio South Goa District Hospital. Based on the consultant’s assessment and findings, the disability certificate will be issued.
The order said the procedure is intended to speed up the issuance of disability certificates and avoid the inconvenience caused by transporting bedridden patients to Hospicio South Goa District Hospital for assessment.
