Panaji/Sankhali/Mapusa: The state witnessed a series of tragic road accidents at different locations over the last 24 hours, resulting in the loss of three lives.

In the first incident, a fatal accident occurred at Lakhere-Bicholim on Sunday morning, where a two-wheeler rammed into a four-wheeler under circumstances yet to be ascertained. In the accident, Ganesh Biradar, 30, a resident of Krishnanagar, Bicholim, was crushed to death. Police said Biradar was proceeding towards Bicholim on his two-wheeler when he hit a car. After the collision, he fell on the road and was run over by a container truck that was proceeding towards Bicholim. The driver of the container truck fled from the scene after the accident. The youth was shifted to the Bicholim primary health centre, where the doctor declared him brought dead. Bicholim police conducted the panchanama and sent the body for post-mortem examination to the Goa Medical College. Police have registered an accident case and an offence has been registered against the driver of the container truck.

In another accident, Quepem resident Jaster Rodrigues, 27, was killed after a speeding car dashed into a tree near a garage in Anjuna during the early hours of Sunday. The driver sustained serious injuries in the crash and later succumbed to his injuries at the North District Hospital. Police said the accident occurred at around 3 am near Rocky Garage in Anjuna. Police said that Rodrigues was travelling from the Rocky Garage side towards the Anjuna Tito junction in a four-wheeler. As the car reached near the garage, the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle and the car went ahead and dashed against a coconut tree on the right-hand side of the road. Due to the impact, Rodrigues sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the North District Hospital. He later succumbed to his accidental injuries during treatment, police said. Upon receiving information about the accident, Anjuna police rushed to the spot. Head constable Vishal Gawas conducted a panchanama and the body was shifted to the GMC morgue for post-mortem examination.

In a third fatal accident, a generator van knocked down a pedestrian on the Guirim highway, killing him on the spot. The victim Anand Dharwadkar, 77, was reportedly crossing the road when the speeding van hit him. The impact proved fatal and Dharwadkar died instantly.
