Valpoi

Fire and Emergency Services personnel at the Valpoi Fire Station continued to remain engaged in rescue operations for the third consecutive day on Monday as heavy rain and strong winds lashed Sattari. According to fire officials, several tree-fall incidents were reported across the taluka.

At around 2.10 am, a jungle tree fell on an electricity line and across the road at Redighat in Valpoi, disrupting vehicular movement. Fire personnel cleared the obstruction, restoring normal traffic.

About 40 minutes later, another jungle tree collapsed on the road at Shignem in Pissurlem village. Fire personnel removed the tree and reopened the road to traffic.

During the day, firefighters attended to a tree that fell on the main road near the ACGL Company at Bhuipal, while another tree collapsed near a house at Harijanwada in Khotodem.

Separate incidents of trees falling on houses were also reported at Mauxi and at the IRB Camp in Nanoda. Fire personnel cleared three trees that had fallen on roads at different locations, restoring traffic movement.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, although minor property damage was caused where trees fell on residential structures.

The latest incidents followed a busy weekend for the Valpoi Fire Station, which has been responding to a series of tree-fall emergencies across Sattari as continuous monsoon rain and gusty winds continue to uproot trees and disrupt traffic. Fire officials said motorists and residents should exercise caution while travelling through forested and hilly stretches during the monsoon.
