Lucknow: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday attacked the opposition over the Ram Temple issue, accusing it of having a history of “insulting” Hindu faith and opposing the Ram Temple movement, and stating that no one would be allowed to “hurt” devotees’ sentiments.
Nabin said the Congress party has become irrelevant, the SP’s bicycle “will be sent to the scrapyard” in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, and asserted that the BJP must continue winning elections until 2047 to achieve a developed India.
Addressing BJP workers in Lucknow, Nabin, without referring to the recent alleged donation theft case at the Ram Temple, said the government would act where required. He alleged that parties which had “insulted” the Hindu faith lacked the moral authority to question the temple.
Referring to the Ram Temple movement, he said, “These are the same people who questioned Lord Ram’s existence, filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court calling Lord Ram imaginary, questioned the existence of the Ram Setu and ordered firing on kar sevaks.”
He said those now speaking about faith had earlier opposed the Ram Temple movement.
“I want to state this clearly today… Even if our blood is shed, we will not allow anyone to tamper with the faith linked to Lord Ram’s temple. We are prepared to make any sacrifice for it,” he said. Nabin said the government had made its stand clear on the issue.
“We will take action, and we will rectify shortcomings wherever necessary. But these anti-Hindu forces, which have always insulted Hinduism, Hindu gods and goddesses, and played with our faith, have no moral right to preach politics to us. Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal do not think Hindu society is so weak that it will fall into your trap or act according to your dictates. We have seen you remain silent whenever Hindu gods and goddesses are insulted. We saw your silence when questions were raised over Hindu worship practices in Tamil Nadu and when the Ramcharitmanas was insulted in Bihar,” he said.
Recalling the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Nabin said his father had participated as a kar sevak and spent two months in jail. “My father left Patna as a kar sevak and spent two months in jail. We did not know whether he would return home safely. And today you question our faith? We have made so many sacrifices and endured so much. Can your family ever match that sacrifice and martyrdom? Your legacy is bloodshed and firing on Hindus, while our legacy is making sacrifices to protect the faith of our gods and goddesses,” he said.
Nabin attacked opposition parties over what he described as “dynastic politics”, saying the BJP remained the only major political party where grassroots workers could rise to the highest organisational positions.
“Today I want to tell party workers that any BJP worker, through hard work and dedication, can one day become the state president or even the national president. That is the BJP’s culture. But in opposition parties, only those born into certain families can become national presidents,” he said.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nabin alleged that the party had repeatedly compromised the country’s interests and never took pride in India’s history, Constitution or democratic values.
“Whenever the country’s interests were at stake, they entered into compromises with foreign forces. They have never taken pride in India’s history, Constitution or democratic values. They only take pride in members of their own family, who divided the country,” he alleged.
He took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party, saying BJP workers would ensure the party’s defeat in the next Assembly elections. “Congress has already become irrelevant. Now, BJP workers will puncture the tyres of the party that contests on the bicycle symbol. This time the bicycle will not even be repairable; it will be sent to the scrapyard,” he said.
