In a positive news to policy makers, results of different National Statistics Office (NSO) surveys will henceforth be disclosed within three months, said NSS, Director General, Geeta Singh Rathore, on Tuesday.
Rathore said that, the decision to publish survey findings within a timeline is one of the decisions taken during the 18th national seminar of NSO that is being held over two days, April 8-9, at Goa University. The director general explained that, NSO conducts different surveys. “Even year-long survey results will be disclosed within three months while results of shorter quarterly surveys will be made public with the next quarter,” said Rathore.
Goa University, Vice Chancellor Harilal B Menon, inaugurated the 18th seminar, attended by researchers, economists, and students. The seminar will discuss survey results of the 78th and 79th NSS rounds, the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprise, Household Consumption Expenditure Survey and the Annual Survey of Industries. In all 13 research papers will be presented during the seminar.
“The findings of selected research papers will be used to further fine-tune future NSO surveys,” explained Rathore.
The NSO earlier known as the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) is the nodal agency at central level to conduct large-scale sample surveys in diverse fields. Primary data is collected through nation-wide household and enterprise visits on various socio-economic subjects like health, capital investment, industry, etc.
