They beat Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda 5-3 in tie-breaker

Chinchinim : Ambelim Sports Club edged out Fr. Angnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda 4-2 via tie-breaker after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, in the Anil Kamat Memorial Football Tournament at the Chinchinim ground on Wednesday.

In a game marked by missed opportunities and heroic saves, it was ultimately composure from the spot that separated the two evenly matched teams. Ambelim SC saw successful conversions from Michel Silva, Veroy Fernandes, Desmond Fernandes, and goalkeeper Ozen Silva, who not only saved earlier but also coolly slotted home in the shootout.

The breakthrough finally came in the 45th minute when Velroy Fernandes latched onto a loose ball and fired home from the right flank in the top corner to give Ambelim the lead. But just when it seemed Ambelim would hold on, Paroda found an equaliser in the 60th minute, with Likson Rebello finishing calmly to force a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, while Alvito Fernandes and Likson Rebello scored for Fr Angnelo, the rest faltered under pressure. Ambelim’s perfect four-from-four display ensured they advanced to the next round.
