Shario, Airen and Anish shoot a goal each in their 3-0 win

Mapusa:  Cortalim Villagers Social Welfare Sports Club delivered a commanding performance to defeat Goa Police 3-0 in the Goa Professional League Relegation League at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Tuesday.

Shario Gomes set the tone as early as the second minute, while Airen Fernandes doubled the lead before the break. Substitute Anish Gadar added gloss to the scoreline with a stoppage-time strike as Cortalim wrapped up a comprehensive win.

Cortalim Villagers struck almost immediately when a well-delivered free-kick by Sidney Lucas found Gomes, who rose above his marker and guided a header over the Goa Police custodian saiesh Kunkolkar to open the scoring.

The advantage was doubled in the 29th minute when a lay-off outside the box found Airen Fernandes, who created space before unleashing a powerful low drive that beat the keeper despite getting a hand to it.

Goa Police struggled to impose themselves and rarely threatened, though they came close in the 70th minute when Mayuresh Naik broke through on a pass from Mohit Malik, only for Delmon Rebello to intervene and clear the danger.

Tempers flared midway through the second half following a strong challenge, resulting in multiple bookings for Goa Police players Lakesh Gawas, Abdul Khan, Saiesh Kunkolkar and Mayuresh Naik, along with Cortalim’s Sidney Lucas. Fernandes had earlier been cautioned in the 36th minute.

Cortalim sealed the result deep into stoppage time when another Lucas free-kick caused confusion in the box. The loose ball fell to substitute Gadar, who fired in a shot that took a deflection off the post before finding the net.
